Johnson and FXMD Take Control

For a team that wasn’t supposed to be here, they did pretty well. But from the moment they arrived in the garage, Billy Johnson and the FX Motorsports Development team were clearly the favorites to win the event. Their Acura NSX was up on power, dialed in perfectly due to Billy’s acute sense of balance, and ready to rock!

When all was said and done, FXMD ended the day with a win in U-RWD, win Unlimited overall and the overall champion of Round 5 with a new track record in a production car. 1:30.630.

Mark Daddio and the team from AMS Performance gave it a good shot, but came up short in the end due to a faulty gearbox. At the end of Saturday practice, Daddio told us that they lost 5th gear, and by the end of today, shifting from 2nd to 3rd was impossible. Running a time attack on two gears is no small feat, but to do it in 1:33.159 is just amazing.

AMS wasn’t the only team that was having mechanical troubles. Scott Bush and BC Racing also had gearbox issues losing 5th and 6th gears in their G35 car, and we had heard that Jeffrey Ricca and Ramana Lagemann in the 240sxMotoring and DentSport (respectively) 240s were both running with engine troubles. Ross Miller and the Ptuning team blew up the engine and headed back to the shop in Virginia in hopes to get it swapped out yesterday, but they encountered troubles at 1am and ran out of time to get back to South Carolina in time to race. Ross and the Ptuning team will need to make up the points in modified class, and plan to join Redline in Nevada and finish off the season on the West Coast.

Tony Wiesenhahn continues to turn heads with the Turn In Concepts WRX. The car is freakishly fast, and Tony is an amazing driver. Watching him drive is a real treat. To run a 1:43 on the nearly 2.3 mile track in street dress is an outstanding feat, and he lead all others in the Buddy Club Street Class by nearly 3 seconds on the way to his third consecutive class win. We can’t wait to see Wiesenhahn go head to head with presumtive west-coast favorite Jeremy Toye in Fontana at season’s end… It will be an epic battle!
