Buttonwillow is where it all began. Not civilization, but Time Attack. Well, in North America at least. Having been the host to the first Time Attack Challenge on this side of the Pacific in 2004, the track has seen massive improvement in the lap times since Tarzan Yamada ran a 1:54.2 in a ’98 Skyline GT-R. Lets take a look at the track, the facilities and the place that is “Buttonwillow.” (and if you’ve missed it… check our “Definitive Guide to all things Town of Buttonwillow” for details on the surrounding locale that gives the track its name)
Paddock: Not a lot to talk about here. Theres an east side and west side, with the track entrance to the west of the main control “tower,” south of the paddock. Because track entrance and exit are on the west side, most crews make their homes on the west side. There are also a couple garages over here which may be available for use (contact track management to reserve).
Services: Fuel pumps are self-serve and feature 91, 100 and sometimes 110 octane. Credit cards only. There is a tires shop on site which feature a wide assortment of tires. Call ahead and they can order for you usually. Tire shop usually closes by about 2 or 3pm everyday.
Food: The track’s “control tower” has a grill usually offering hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, etc. Depending on how the crowd is, they’ll sometimes be open as late as 2pm, but don’t count on it. They do also sometimes open up for breakfast. Otherwise, you’re hoofing it back to the town for some McDonalds or Carl’s Jr.
Camping: RV Camping is available. Call the track for rates.
Sevens Only Racing: Sevens Only has their shop on-site and is ready do sell most “oh crap we forgot….” items. Stay tuned, as they may be out of the shop supporting the event at California Speedway the same weekend.
