We’re in Nashville, and its hot both on and off the track. Sure the temperatures may be over 90 degrees, but its the humidity that’ll getcha! Time attack drivers are getting settled in nicely at the Nashville Superspeedway outside of Lebanon, with no major incidents to report here as finished up day one. An impressive field of about 25 drivers have arrived to get the cars sorted and ready for tomorrow’s competition.
Scott Bush, driving the BC Racing G35 is suffering from some bad luck. Reports are that the car has an alignment issue with the rear wheels, each with about a half inch of toe out. That may not matter, as apparently finding race rubber might prove difficult for the beleagured team. The team took the wheels and new tires to a local shop to be mounted, and the shop proceeded to tear the bead and destroy the tire. Apparently, Scott remains a professional, and is currently running a 1:08 in practice… not sure if thats on his Modified or Unlimited Class tire.
An early rain squall made the track slippy, but didn’t do much to cool things down. A storm front continues to linger in the area for tonight and tomorrow, with expected highs in the 90s tomorrow, and a 20% chance of showers. I don’t think that any heat, rain or even an infestation of some sort of insect will keep some of the teams away. Top Speed’s Doug Wilks put serious mileage in getting to this event, despite the shop being a relatively short drive away in Atlanta. Doug drove from Atlanta to Knoxville in his Honda Fit to pick up a set of Hoosier A6s from the warehouse of the Southeastern US Distributor, and then headed back to the shop to load up the rig, and THEN drive from Atlanta to Nashville. Can’t say as I blame him. Top Speed is on par to lock up a championship in the Unlimited AWD Class with a first place showing this weekend.
Oh, and as a general piece of advice. Don’t attempt to do cocaine while on an airplane. If you’re going to, you might not want to attempt to do it on your tray table, and you’re certainly NOT going to want to do it while there is a guy sitting next to you. You’ll get busted. Just some friendly advice from your Redline Time Attack Crew…. that had to wait 30 minutes before they could get get off the plane.
More updates tomorrow! We’re headed to the honky tonk!!!!
